Cat-work in the Age of Telework

COVID has driven the spread of telework across the world dramatically, and at our company too all staff have been on telework since February.

Only I am usually in the office, since there's mail to process and so on, but I make a point of commuting by bicycle and otherwise using public transport as little as possible.

But working alone in the office is actually pretty lonely.

In the sense of working alone, of course it's the same for those connecting from home, but being alone in a space like a company office, you can't quite fill the space — you want something soothing, you know.

So I started "cat-work."

It just means coming from home together with the cat when I bicycle to the office on a sunny day.

Just coming to the office with the cat in the morning makes the comfort during work hours completely different. (I'm in the middle of a beard-growing challenge, so please forgive the owner's scruffy appearance.)

Well, comfort — or rather —

I get

absolutely

no work

done

So, since I get absolutely no work done, these days I don't really bring her to the office much anymore.

It's incredibly soothing, but if that's the case, better to finish work quickly, head home early, and play with the cat then.

In other words, the productivity of cat-work is super low.

I tried all sorts of trial and error during COVID, but cat-work was a clear failure.

But I have absolutely no regrets!

Ahh, it's soothing.
