[Web-DOG Iwate] Azumamine Brewery Site Renewal — Kickoff Meeting Report

This article reflects information as of 2020. For the latest details, please contact us.

Hello and good evening, everyone.

This is the Web-DOG Executive Committee.

The student competition "Web-DOG," which kicked off in July 2020, entered its production phase yesterday, September 16, as its first installment: the "Web-DOG Iwate — Azumamine Brewery Site Renewal Competition." From here we'll record the students' production process on note, so please do follow along.

You can see how the competition was held here.

1. A Kickoff Meeting Online

As with when the competition was held, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we ran the kickoff meeting online as well, connecting Iwate and Tokyo.

This meeting had 15 participants in total: teachers and students from Morioka Business & Design Vocational School, and the Web-DOG Executive Committee.

Discussing and deciding positions

The meeting flow was as follows.

・Explanation of how to proceed with the project ・Explanation of the project-management tool Backlog ・Discussion to decide positions ・Q&A ・Deciding the next brainstorming session with the company

Basically, we plan to advance production in class slots of twice a week, two periods per session, for a total of four periods. Depending on the case, we're told they can also use after-school seminar time in the form of part-time work.

This time it's only requirements definition and design/implementation, so we expect it to take about three months until production is complete.

Projected schedule

2. Using the Project-Management Tool Backlog

Especially for projects with many people, proceeding without a management tool becomes quite tedious and complicated. So this time we're using the project-management tool Backlog, which makes "who" does "what" "by when" clear and the status easy to grasp.

One of Backlog's big features is that anyone can start using it in a short time. So at the kickoff meeting, we introduced how to use it concisely.

Explaining the Gantt chart

Right away, the students registered on Backlog via email.

And Ito, from the Business Information course at Morioka Business & Design Vocational School, will serve as this project's project manager, coordinating the members and driving the project.

The Web-DOG Executive Committee will keep watching over them too!
