Hello, everyone! Good evening!

Excuse me for jumping right in, but do you know WordPress? I imagine almost everyone reading this article knows it, but I myself only finally picked up the basics of WordPress half a year ago. On top of that, I actually built a simple site using WordPress too.

Watching WordPress-related YouTube videos and studying as I went, I built this site over about a week. ↓

■ What is WordPress?

If you're in the web industry, I think you ought to know WordPress. There are plenty of books and articles, but I really recommend YouTube videos after all.

I studied WordPress with this free video. The YouTuber Akiyuki Kaneko is an extremely good teacher, and I think you can understand even with zero knowledge. Just like the title of this free video says, you really can complete a homepage blog in a single day.

It's a two-hour video, but a proper table of contents is listed in the video's description, so it's better to use that and watch only the parts you want to know about.

■ Free WordPress themes

The free video I introduced above is a way to build a homepage blog with no cost at all other than the server. It's a page you can build with WordPress's default theme or a free theme, so there will be shortcomings on the design side. Also, for beginners, building the ideal blog with the default or a free theme will probably take quite a bit of time.

Of course, some people will want to give it their all with a free theme, so I recommend these customizable ones: "OnePress," "bizvektor," and "llorixonelite." For how to build with them, please continue to watch the YouTuber Akiyuki Kaneko's free videos.

■ Paid WordPress themes

After looking into various options, I ultimately went with a paid theme. But when choosing a paid theme, there are subscription services and there are one-time-purchase services, and you have to choose according to your site's needs, and it has to be a responsive design, and… it's full of pitfalls.

The site I linked at the top uses this paid theme.

Honestly, I thought it might have been better to compare purchases a bit more. This theme is truly wonderful, but conversely it has too many features, so I felt it was overkill for this particular site. Also, because I had few image assets, I couldn't use the lovely image-editing features even though they were there.

That said, for our own business we can use this theme multiple times, so I'd like to fully utilize it at some point down the road!

■ Recommended paid WordPress themes

A paid theme is like an investment; if you want to build an elaborate site quickly, I think this investment is indispensable. And I recommend one-time-purchase paid themes.

This tcd-theme is a bit pricey, but all templates are constantly being upgraded and the after-sales support is very good too. However, since the designs are simple and stylish, those with few image assets should be careful.

I think the ranking written in this "10 Recommended WordPress Themes, 2020 Edition" will also be helpful. Price matters, of course, but let's choose while comparing design and functionality too!

■ Summary

As in my previous article, I was able to study all sorts of things using free YouTube videos. If there's no one around you to ask, immediately ask Professor YouTube or Professor Google! When you do, be patient, listen well, read well, and keep on studying!
